How to eat Kikyou Shingen Mochi | Savor an iconic Yamanashi sweet

Kikyou Shingen Mochi is an iconic sweet of Yamanashi Prefecture. Even among those who have never visited Yamanashi, many people have tried this classic mochi (glutinous rice cake). As it comes in a small container, there is a bit of technique involved in achieving full coverage of your Kikyou Shingen Mochi with kuromitsu (molasses). First, let’s open the wrapper. Together with the mochi and molasses, you will also find a yoji (skewer used for eating traditional Japanese sweets). Now, remove the inner lid.
