How to Cut a Pineapple Easily and Perfectly at Home
We all know that freshly cut fruit tastes juicier and more delicious.
But when it comes to pineapples, their unique shape can be intimidating.
Many people think, “I don’t know how to cut it, so I just buy the pre-sliced ones at the store…”
If that sounds like you, don’t worry!
We asked fruit cutting designer Sawako Nashimizu to show us a super easy and Instagram-worthy way to cut and enjoy a pineapple.

Tips for Choosing

First, when selecting a pineapple, look for one that has a plump, bottom-heavy shape and feels heavy for its size. In addition, a pineapple that gradually turns yellow from the bottom up is a sweet one—this is a good sign!
Twist Off the Leaves

Twist the leafy top as if you’re wringing out a towel, and it will come off easily. It’s quite a surprise!
Cut into 8 Pieces

Start by cutting the pineapple in half lengthwise.

Then cut it into 8 equal pieces. Try to keep the thickness consistent and maintain symmetry as you cut.

If you can get it to look like this, you’ve nailed it!
Cut Out the Core

Next, cut out the core of the pineapple. Be careful not to remove too much of the edible fruit!
Separate the Flesh from the Skin

Insert the knife between the flesh and the skin, and cut about halfway through.

Once you’ve cut halfway, insert the knife from the opposite side and cut halfway again. Cutting from both sides helps keep the edge thickness even.
Slice the Flesh Evenly

Slice the flesh into bite-sized pieces evenly.

Another method is to trim both edges first. This can make it easier to insert the knife between the flesh and the skin.
Serve and Enjoy

Arrange the cut pineapple pieces in an alternating pattern to make them look stylish.
This time, we enjoyed a ripe and juicy pineapple freshly cut. It was amazing how quickly a large pineapple became easy-to-eat pieces. By cutting it yourself, you’ll be able to appreciate its deliciousness even more!
